Interests, expertise and current research areas
Khairul is a firm believer that mathematics teachers have to be strong not only in content knowledge, but also in pedagogical-content knowledge. Thus, he will always keep pushing teachers and teacher-candidates to relationally understand each concept that they plan to teach, whether through lectures, workshops or research, so that they feel empowered to explore alternative and innovative pedagogical approaches. He encourages teachers to continue to professionally develop themselves, and wherever possible work collaboratively (through lesson study as an example). Another interest and research area of his is adopting recreational mathematics as a possible pedagogical and motivational approach in students’ mathematics learning.
Interested in supervising students in the following areas
- Mathematics Teaching Intervention
- Recreational Mathematics
- Teacher Professional Development
- Mathematics Pedagogy
- Innovative Teaching
