Prof. Andy’s research interests span multiple facets of language education and applied linguistics, with particular attention to psychological dimensions of learning and teaching. He investigates ELT teacher professional development, reflective practice, self-efficacy and job satisfaction, assessment literacy among teachers and students, and the promotion of teacher and learner autonomy.
He is also interested in reading in a second or foreign language, exploring metacognitive strategies that enhance comprehension and learning, and developing teaching materials that facilitate meaningful language learning.

More recently, his work has expanded to examine the use of emerging technologies, including ChatGPT, in language learning, with a focus on how these tools can support and enrich learner engagement and performance.
